Into the Breach: Foundation for the Year
Every Faith in Action program is an opportunity to put your faith into action and step into the breach. Stepping into the breach requires Knights to identify the needs around them and respond with action. To that end every council is encouraged to begin this fraternal year with the new Into the Breach video series program. Rediscover who we are called to be as men of faith and the mission we are called to fulfill as Knights.
GLOBAL WHEELCHAIR MISSION
March 1st is International Wheelchair Day. This is a wonderful opportunity for councils to help raise funds for those with a mobility impairment and to answer the prayers of millions of people worldwide who are currently living their lives without a wheelchair. A wheelchair allows children to attend school and adults the opportunity to provide for their families. The wheelchairs cost $150 each to sponsor in the United States and $195 in Canada, for two program credits toward the Columbian Award –Donate the equivalent of a minimum of 10 wheelchairs at $150 per chair to the American Wheelchair Mission or the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation. Report activity using the new online #10784 form. For more information visit kofc.org/wheelchair.
SILVER ROSE
The Silver Rose program is an opportunity to pray the rosary, spread the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and promote the pro-life cause. While Silver Rose prayer services have typically been held in-person, councils can also run the program as fits their own local needs. This year, consider hosting a parish-based virtual silver rose prayer service, allow individual families or council members to host the rose at their home to pray privately or allow individual families to host a virtual council or family prayer night. An example of a virtual silver rose prayer service at a parish can be found here. Contact your state silver rose chairman to get involved. For more information, including your jurisdiction's route dates, visit kofc.org/rose. And to watch the Supreme Council’s Silver Rose Pro-Life Prayer Service, click here.
HOLY HOUR
Knights are called to be continually growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ. To achieve that goal, we are called to frequently strengthen and recommit our faith through prayer, especially prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. By ending the fraternal year with a Holy Hour, Knights have the opportunity to give one last "yes" to God in preparation for the breaches and challenges to follow in the coming year. To learn more about leading a Holy Hour at your parish, visit kofc.org/holyhour.
GOOD FRIDAY FAMILY PROMOTION
Lent has begun, so we have started our 40-day journey to Holy Week and the joy of Easter Sunday. As you are entering into this season of penance, begin planning how you will encourage Knights and your parish community to fully participate in the beautiful and meaningful liturgies of Holy Week. Work with your pastor to promote especially the Good Friday Liturgy in which we focus on Jesus' death on the cross. Invite all families to enter into the mystery of our redemption by coming together for the 3:00 pm Liturgy on Good Friday. For more information about this program, visit here.
