Poll: Big Shift Among Practicing and Non-Practicing Catholics After Papal Visit
New polling data released May 8 by the Knights of Columbus shows that Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United States in April produced a sharp jump in the proportion of American Catholics with a more positive view of the pope following his trip. The information provides data specifically about Catholics, and is a companion to an analysis released April 30 about the views of Americans generally.
Knights and New York Giants Show Support for Life Athletes

The day after the Super Bowl XLII champion New York Giants were welcomed to the White House by President Bush, coach Tom Coughlin, the Mara family and many current and former Giants turned out at a K of C-sponsored gala dinner in Greenwich, Conn., benefiting Life Athletes. Life Athletes is an association of more than 300 professional and Olympic athletes who promote virtue, abstinence, and respect for life. Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and Chris Godfrey, the starting right guard for the Super Bowl XXI champion New York Giants and president of Life Athletes, are pictured with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Godfrey is a member of Santa Maria Council 553 in South Bend, Ind., and Lombardi belonged to Msgr. Basche Council 4505 in Green Bay, Wis., – both are featured in By Their Works.

Knights Providing Tribute for Pope’s Yankee Stadium Mass
Pope Benedict XVI will have a lasting memorial of his April 20 Mass at Yankee Stadium, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. The New York ballpark will permanently commemorate the occasion with a bronze plaque, commissioned by the Catholic fraternal organization, which is based in nearby New Haven, Conn.

The committee’s action was taken during a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Fourth Degree Knights Raise Funds for Dome
Fourth Degree Knights are raising funds to offset the cost of the Knights of Columbus Incarnation Dome at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The Order committed $1 million to the dome, which was dedicated Nov. 17 and is challenging Fourth Degree assemblies to raise half of this amount.
Order Underwrites Papal Essay Contest
The Knights of Columbus, in conjunction with the Diocese of Green Bay, Wis., is sponsoring a nationwide essay contest to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the United States April 15-20. The contest is open to students in grades nine through 12.
Special Insurance Offer Available to Knights
Supreme Knight Carl Anderson recently mailed a very special offer to all members in the United States and Canada between the ages of 18 and 65. The “new member plan,” a low-cost permanent life insurance product, is normally available only to new members and their wives when they join the Order. For a limited time, in connection with the 125th anniversary of the Order, the plan is being made available to existing members as well.
