Founder’s Day – 2007

Celebrating Faith in Action, Faith in Deed

From the Supreme Knight
Carl A. Anderson
Biography

On March 29, our Order will launch a yearlong celebration of our 125th anniversary with a Mass and program where the Knights of Columbus got its start: St. Mary’s Church in New Haven.

The Supreme Council has invited all of the priests of Connecticut to join us on this special day, not in our honor but in honor of our priest founder, the Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney. March 29, Founder’s Day, also will see publication of the paperback edition of the bestselling Parish Priest: Father Michael McGivney and American Catholicism by Douglas Brinkley and Julie M. Fenster.

This anniversary year will bring with it many occasions to look back at our proud history and all that we have accomplished “In service to One. In service to all.” Our 125th anniversary will be a pointless exercise in self-congratulation if we do not plan to arrive at March 29, 2008, with a better idea of just who we are as Father McGivney’s Knights and what is expected of us as members of the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization.

Our 125-year history has as many highlights as it does because we have tried to model our programs on Father McGivney’s life and example. His vision, his courage, his perseverance, his faith in God and his devotion to our Blessed Mother have been our guideposts.

Let us concentrate on these virtues as we go forth in the year ahead in renewed service to our Church, our pastors and chaplains, our communities and councils, and our neighbors in need.
