It is, once again, an honor for me to salute, on behalf of the people of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, all the participants in this 2008’s Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus.
Your trajectory over time, since Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Order 126 years ago, has been full of challenges and remarkable accomplishments. It is difficult to overstate the importance of the work you have performed, all these years, for the benefit of humanity. Because of your efforts, countless people have obtained opportunities to improve their quality of life. Moreover, you have been present, time and time again, to offer a helping hand to those who find themselves in situations of distress following natural or human disasters. Your extensive network, throughout the world, gives you the special advantage of being able to help people of all faiths and ideologies throughout the planet.
As a Roman Catholic, I am proud that the Knights of Columbus represent the very best ideals of our religion. Guided by the Iight of God, you bring hope to the helpless and inspiration to those in need.
