In the final Mass of the convention, offered for the souls of deceased Knights of Columbus, Supreme Chaplain Bishop William Lori summed up the theme of the three-day meeting, “Building a Civilization of Love Through Charity, Unity and Fraternity.”

States Dinner Highlights Fraternity
Faith, fun and fraternalism marked the States Dinner Tuesday evening, as delegates and their wives from all 72 jurisdictions of the Order gathered with flags from their states, provinces and countries.

In Annual Report, Supreme Knight Vows Fight for Life and Marriage
Declaring that “abortion is different. Abortion is the killing of the innocent on a massive scale,” Supreme Knight Carl Anderson pledged the Knights of Columbus to continuing its pro-life efforts in a special way in this election year in the United States.

2,000, TV Audience Hear State of the Order Address
More than 2,000 Knights and family members attended the Supreme Convention’s opening business session to hear Supreme Knight Carl Anderson deliver his state of the order address. The past year saw record achievements in all areas of the Order’s operations.

Cardinal Ouellet Gives Homily at Convention’s Opening Mass
Cardinal Marc Ouellet of Quebec Tuesday told Knights assembled for the opening Mass of the 126th Supreme Convention that the “Knights have grown a lot over the years, not only in prosperity but also in spiritual awakening, family committment and social solidarity.”

Fathers for Good Initiative The Knights of Columbus is launching a new initiative at the 126th Supreme Convention, called Fathers for Good. Its centerpiece is a new Web site, www.fathersforgood.org.

Fraternal, Insurance Leaders Talk Membership at Monday Seminar
The dual strengths of the Knights of Columbus were summoned to lead a membership seminar Monday Aug. 4. Approximately 200 Knights listened to talks on recruitment, new council development and insurance promotion led by leading Knights of Columbus general and field agents, and current and past state deputies. Supreme Director Emilio Moure from California served as moderator.

Chapel is Peaceful Sanctuary
As the hectic schedule unfolds for the 126th Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Meeting in Quebec City, Fourth Degree Knights in full regalia, working in two-man teams, are taking 30-minute shifts as honor guards before the Blessed Sacrament. Convention delegates and their families are invited to stop into the chapel for a few minutes of prayer and contemplation.

Time Out: A Tour Along the River
Dozens of convention delegates and their wives got just that thrill on a Sunday afternoon sightseeing cruise. The ship, the Louis Joliet, began at Place Royal, where Champlain first established his “Abitation” on July 3, 1608. The tour boat sailed a few miles to the Orleans Island Bridge, where passengers received a stunning view of the Montmorency waterfall, which is billed as higher than Niagara Falls. It was a great introduction to the area and its history, as the tour guide, dressed in the 17th century garb, told the story of the city, old and new.
