Editor Robert Leeney Dies at Age 92
Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson on July 8 offered “heartfelt condolences” to the family of Robert Leeney, the retired editor of the New Haven Register, a 27-year member of the Knights of Columbus who died Sunday at the age of 92.

Supreme Council Sends Aid to Philippines in Wake of Typhoon Frank
|
| Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson June 27 sent a letter to Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, informing him that the Knights of Columbus has wired $25,000 to the Caritas Filipinas Foundation “to assist recovery efforts following the devastating Typhoon Frank (Fengshen) that struck the Philippines last week.” At least 598 people have died because of the storm, which triggered widespread flooding and mudslides. “Besides this financial support, please be assured of a special place in our prayers for all those affected by this devastating storm,” Anderson said. |

49th International Eucharistic Congress
Quebec City’s historic Plains of Abraham was the setting for the closing Mass of the 49th International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) June 22. Thousands of the faithful filled the former battlefield turned national park and cheered the procession of hundreds of priests and members of the hierarchy, and applauded.

Knights Providing Tribute for Pope’s Yankee Stadium Mass
Pope Benedict XVI will have a lasting memorial of his April 20 Mass at Yankee Stadium, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. The New York ballpark will permanently commemorate the occasion with a bronze plaque, commissioned by the Catholic fraternal organization, which is based in nearby New Haven, Conn.

Fourth Degree Knights Raise Funds for Dome
Fourth Degree Knights are raising funds to offset the cost of the Knights of Columbus Incarnation Dome at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The Order committed $1 million to the dome, which was dedicated Nov. 17 and is challenging Fourth Degree assemblies to raise half of this amount.

Order Underwrites Papal Essay Contest
The Knights of Columbus, in conjunction with the Diocese of Green Bay, Wis., is sponsoring a nationwide essay contest to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the United States April 15-20. The contest is open to students in grades nine through 12.
